Abstract
The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is a complex system of interacting receptors and neurones responsible for the function of the autonomous organs. It allows the body to react and respond to fluctuations in environment by manipulation of heart rate and contractility, blood vessel tone, smooth muscle contraction and relaxation in bronchi, gut and bladder, ciliary muscle relaxation and radial muscle contraction.
