Abstract
Anaesthesia has undergone continuing development, with researchers striving to improve its efficacy and safety. Nevertheless there are still risks associated with having an anaesthetic, ranging from the trivial and self-limiting to major, permanent injury. The issue of risks associated with anaesthesia has been highlighted in a series of publications for patients by the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
