Abstract
In children ages 1–14 years, in the industrialized world, trauma is the second most common cause of death and is a major cause of morbidity. The approach to the seriously injured child involves three phases. The immediate phase includes the primary survey and resuscitation. The focused phase comprises the secondary survey and emergency treatment. The detailed review involves reassessment, continued stabilization and transfer to definitive care. Each of these phases is discussed in detail. Dealing with the burned child is also discussed.
