Abstract
We report the case of a previously healthy 26-year-old female with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)-induced acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) who was successfully treated with intravenous ribavirin associated with systemic corticosteroid therapy. The initial severity of the patient's respiratory failure led to use a veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) associated with invasive mechanical ventilation. To our knowledge, no other cases have been previously reported. In adults, severe RSV-induced ARDS are usually observed in elderly with comorbidities or in immunocompromised patients.
