Abstract
In paediatric as well as in adult patients, several controversies may influence the choice of a fluid replacement solution including: differences in haemodynamic response between colloids and crystalloids, side effects of the different solutions, role of hydroxyethylstarch (HES) and balanced solutions, residual indications of albumin including in neonates. In this review, the authors will try to clarify the different controversies to help the reader in choosing the good fluid for the good patient.
