Abstract
Puncture is a common intervention in the emergency room. The goal is to obtain material for analysis or to evacuate a fluid collection. The objective can be diagnostic or therapeutic. In order to guarantee efficacy and limit potential complications, all punctures should be performed in accordance with good clinical practices. The patient, when possible, should be informed of the reason for the intervention and its practical aspects. Analgesic sedation should be given systematically using the method the most adapted to the particular situation. Absolute respect for the rules of asepsia is essential for all punctures.
