Abstract
We report an original model of prehospital care organized for the 10,000 Tunisians who go to Mecca every year on pilgrimage. The population targeted by this model is selected and identified in advance. The pilgrims are inoculated according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization. The medical teams include 16 doctors and 38 nurses. Logistics are adapted to the conditions of prehospital practices. Since 1993, the model has been adjusted annually. The current model is based on three dimensions: the dimension of community and social medicine, the dimension of general medicine and specialized consultations and the dimension of emergency treatment and resuscitation. Coordination between these three dimensions is assured by the center of regulation. This approach developed gradually. Our model of prehospital medicine merits widened dialogue with the aim of developing a generalized model.
