Abstract
The first medical contact for most acute stroke victims is provided by emergency medical services which thereby play a pivotal role in the identification and treatment of acute brain injured patients. Therapies for acute stroke are highly time-dependent, making the rapid and efficient response of emergency services of critical importance. The general public's knowledge is suboptimal for stroke warning signs. The emergency medical phone number (dial 15) requires further promotion. Recognition and treatment of medical stroke in the field can also be improved.
