Abstract
The nurse-patient relationship is a complex concept for which there is no agreed definition. In the literature, it stresses the importance of the human side of the relationship, emphasizing the human values rather than the technical skills of the nurse. This relationship benefits both the patient and the nurse. More research is required on the nurse-patient relationship, both on the main characteristics as well as its scope and benefits. A greater understanding of the importance of the nurse-patient relationship is expected to increase the quality of the care patients receive and, therefore, their quality of life.
