Emergence times as well as neurocognitive recovery seem to be more dependent on the quality of BIS-monitoring and adjusting of stable conditions regarding depth of anaesthesia rather than the use of a specific short acting anaesthetic. From a medical as well as an economical point of view BIS should be a standard monitoring in general anaesthesia.
