Abstract
Bupivacaine stereostructure-specifically interacts with membranes containing cholesterol, which is consistent with the clinical features of S(â)-bupivacaine. Membrane cholesterol appears to increase the chirality of lipid bilayers and enable them to interact with S(â)-, racemic and R(+)-bupivacaine differently.
