Abstract
Pain medicine is a relatively new and very promising medical specialty. Choosing your career wisely will lead to a very fulfilling career. There are several choices available to a freshly graduated pain specialist. From academic career with teaching and research as the focus to a private practice career, one has to make the right choice and follow some simple rules. Negotiating a contract with the future employer required one to be armed with proper knowledge regarding the employer and also the locality. Although an ideal job may not actually exist, it can be created to be close to ideal if one pays attention to the basics and does not let unreal expectations lead to pitfalls that would later on be regretted.
