Abstract
SummaryBedside ultrasound assessment of critically ill patients is gaining popularity and importance. Ultrasound assessment of the inferior vena cava has been suggested to be helpful in guiding fluid resuscitation. Although numerous studies have been performed a consensus has not been reached and expert opinions are divided. This review aims to further the reader's understanding and ability to navigate the controversies surrounding this modality in the care of the critically ill.
