Abstract
Most publications on bariatric surgery analyze weight loss and improvement in metabolic complications as the main objectives of the intervention. Nevertheless, assessment of the success of surgical treatment should include analysis of quality of life, which can be limited by the presence of nutritional disturbances; therefore, followup and early treatment are important. The prevalence of nutritional deficiencies varies widely according to the series, which could be due to the different surgical techniques used, the distinct supplementation recommendations, and poor treatment adherence.
