Abstract
In the last few years, the Neuroendocrinology Working Group of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (Sociedad Española de Endocrinología y Nutrición [SEEN]) has developed several subgroups. The Spanish Registry of Acromegaly (Registro Español de Acromegalia [REA]) has continued to increase the number of entries, allowing more data on the morbidity and mortality of this disease to be available. Equally, this year, a new online application has been created, with improvements both in its interface and in updating of the data collected. The Spanish Registry of Gastroenteropancreatic Tumors (Registro Español de Tumores Gastroenteropancreáticos [RETEGEP]), in which several medical specialties participate, has seen a significant increase in the number of entries, although the number of new cases from endocrinology has stabilized. The Spanish Group of Neuroendocrine Tumors (Grupo Español de Tumores Neuroendocrinos) has been created under the auspices of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology (Sociedad Española de Oncología Médica) and the SEEN. In contrast, the Registry of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1 (Registro de Neoplasia Endocrina Múltiple tipo 1 [NEM- 1]), has encountered difficulties, necessitating reconsideration of its future. The Cushing's Syndrome Working Subgroup, which also belongs to the Neuroendocrinology Working Group, has gained impulse in the last year, structuring both its composition and objectives. Lastly, this year the Neuroendocrinology Working Group of the SEEN has developed clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of prolactinoma and other hyperprolactinemic states, acromegaly, and adult growth hormone deficiency, which were published in the first edition of this journal in 2005. The clinical guidelines for three further diseases are almost finished and another three guidelines are scheduled for the next course. The Working Group welcomes the support and collaboration of all members of the SEEN.
