Abstract
This paper deals with the problem of finding the stress distribution in the neighborhood of a peripheral edge crack in a spherical cavity. The crack is excited by a torsional standing wave.The problem is solved by using integral transforms and is reduced to the solution of a singular integral equation. The solution of this equation is obtained numerically by the method due to Erdogan, Gupta, and Cook, and the stress intensity factors are displayed graphically.
