Abstract
Thus, it may be hypothesized that Japanese type 2 diabetic patients are divided into two categories: one with normal insulin sensitivity and the other with insulin resistance. The former group has a low cardiovascular risk factor, whereas the latter one has a markedly increased cardiovascular disease risk factor. Furthermore, abdominal fat related insulin resistance seems to be associated with insulin resistance in Japanese type 2 diabetic patients. In this section, we would like to focus on the factors contributing to insulin resistance and discuss the association of these factors with atherosclerosis in Japanese type 2 diabetic patients.
