Abstract
•We generated 29 novel mtCOI sequences of three turtle species from northeast India.•We detected three non-native species, Amyda ornata, Cyclemys fusca and Chitra chitra.•Mitochondrial COI and Cytb gene effectively discriminated the studied species.•We demonstrated unregulated trading of turtles through northeast India.
