Abstract
CABG patients possess a lower number of CD34+/CD144+ cells than valvular ones. Plasma from CABG patients is antiapoptotic for EOCs from healthy donors and increases the expression of both CD34 and CD144. Suboptimal number of CD34+/CD144+ in vivo may be mediated by a primary bone marrow defect rather than a deleterious effect of plasma.
