Abstract
Endothelial dysfunction, associated with an oxidative and inflammatory environment, is an early finding in cardiovascular diseases. In this communication, we propose that even during healthy aging, in the absence of cardiovascular diseases, the vasodilator ability of human arteries is reduced due to the development of several oxidative and inflammatory processes in the vascular wall that alter its physiological functions and increase its susceptibility to external injuries.
