Abstract
► The amphibians buccal oscillator was compared to the pFRG/RTN of mammalian. ► Mammalian pFRG/RTN is a key area for CO2 chemosensitivity. ► Experiments were made on isolated brainstem of adult frog. ► Inhibition of the buccal oscillator was obtained under low Cl− concentration. ► Lung oscillator response to CO2 persists after buccal oscillator inhibition in frog.
