Abstract
Half of the patients who suffer a major limb amputation because of PAD and begin a rehabilitation program regain a satisfactory walking ability. Below-knee amputations achieve high ambulation rates. Family support is very important. Old age, female gender and previous neurological deficit are negative factors in the rehabilitation process.
