Abstract
Venous access through the jugular is usually the most commonly employed opening for a temporary dialysis catheter, due to its practical, easy access and also owing to the low rate of iatrogenic effects. One of the most frequent complications involves accidental puncture of the carotid artery, which does not usually represent a problem because withdrawal of the needle and application of pressure to the area prevent haematomas from appearing and developing. Carotid aneurysms are a rare condition and the incidence of post-traumatic pseudoaneurysms is even lower.
