Abstract
In contrast to antegrade cardioplegia, retrograde cardioplegia is associated with increased cardiomyocyte apoptosis, impaired immediate postoperative systolic function, and lack of long-term favorable left ventricle remodeling after aortic valve replacement, suggesting inadequate myocardial protection.
