Abstract

Venous aneurysms are rare, but they can have devastating consequences, including pulmonary embolism (PE) and death. We present a case of a male patient with venous aneurysms of both his legs treated surgically.Patient and methodsA 24-year-old patient appeared with varicosities of both his legs. Magnetic resonance venography (MRV) revealed partial thrombosis of the vena cava and venous aneurysms of the left popliteal and calf vein and also of the right small saphenus vein (SSV). The patient was treated with tangential excision and lateral venoraphy of the popliteal venous aneurysm (PVA), resection and ligation of the aneurysms of the left SSV with an excellent result.ConclusionOur results are in agreement with the literature. Surgical resection is recommended whenever possible, because there is a significant risk of pulmonary embolism and death if left untreated.
