Abstract

•Feasibility of containment venting in severe accidents for CANDU6 is researched.•Containment venting without filter is researched.•Containment venting with filter is studied.

After Fukushima accident, control strategy of containment integrity is evaluated for most nuclear power plants. Containment venting is deemed as one of the most important strategies to control containment integrity. However, for early CANDU6 design, there is no special containment venting system used for severe accidents. Feasibility of containment venting for CANDU6 is studied. Containment venting without filter and containment venting with filter are studied. In the method of containment venting without filter, D2O vapor recovery system is regarded as venting path. In the method of containment venting with filter, venturi filter is used. Mode of venting valve open and non-close, venting valve open and close are studied, in respectively. Study results indicate that containment venting is feasible for control containment integrity in severe accidents of CANDU6.
