Abstract

A study of hypertension in the industrial population of Assam Petrochemicals Limited of Namrup, Dibrugarh district, has been conducted in the year 2001, from 13th February to 13th March, among the administrative staff aged 40 years and above. As high as 33.66% of the population group was found to have hypertension. In the present study, the risk factors responsible for hypertension observed were diabetes mellitus (14.7%), dyslipidemia (47%), smoking habits (24.7%), consumption of alcohol (67.6%), and sedentary lifestyle (79.4%). Although this study group consisted of subjects less in number, this study is first of its kind in this population group of Assam.
