Abstract
This article chronicles the development of International Reactor Innovative and Secure (IRIS) from its inception to the present. Rather than being a discussion of the reactor design and its characteristics, the focus is on how the project has progressed, the design alternatives which have been considered and the rationale behind the final choices. It provides an insider's view how an idea has evolved over the years into a full-fledged design of an advanced nuclear reactor.
