Abstract
Our results demonstrate that cilostazol restores high glucose-induced impairment of endothelial function in endothelial progenitor cells and human umbilical vein endothelial cells and improves vasculoangiogenesis in vitro and in vivo by modulating AMP-activated protein kinase/acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase and subsequent Akt/endothelial nitric oxide synthase, either in parallel with or downstream of cyclic adenosine monophosphate/protein kinase A-dependent signaling pathway. These findings might advance current understanding of the potential effects of cilostazol in vasculoangiogenesis. The results suggest that cilostazol may provide therapeutic benefit in the treatment of diabetic patients with ischemic disease.
