Biomechanics and gene expression in abdominal aortic aneurysm

So far, there is no clear evidence of a direct inter-relation between material properties of the abdominal aortic aneurysm wall and underlying local gene expression of destabilizing inflammatory, proteolytic, and structural factors. The results of our current study demonstrate for the first time that gene expression of relevant destabilizing factors within the abdominal aortic aneurysm were significantly associated with mechanical properties of the diseased aortic wall.
