Abstract

This paper draws upon the findings of a paper on ‘learning from what works in sustainable community development’, already published by the author in this journal. In reflecting on the lessons learnt, it studies the case for socially inclusive visioning and illustrates how such a technique of analysis can be used by communities as a basis for master-plans to not only underpin their development, but support design programmes capable of sustaining the urban regeneration which they are subject to. This is the critical insight, novel and uniquely practical contribution which the case-based reasoning set out in this paper's account of socially inclusive visioning adds to what is currently known about the community-based approach. This in turn serves to highlight what socially inclusive visioning contributes to the community-based approach and sustainable urban regeneration it rests on.
