Abstract
Since the first description by Guillain, Barré and Strohl in 1916, the pathophysiological concept of the disease has evolved. From 1969 to the middle of 90s, experimental allergic neuritis (EAN) was the reference model. At this time electrophysiology sought only signs of demyelination in patients. The description of axonal forms of Guillain-Barré syndrome has led to significant advances in the understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms, but requires an overhaul of electrophysiological criteria of this disease.
