Abstract
Uveitis is either an eye-limited disease, or part of a widespread inflammatory disease, that may include inflammation of the central nervous system-rarely of the peripheral nervous system. The clinical presentation of both ocular and neurological inflammation is the basis for the etiological work-up. Four types of etiologies are encountered: primary inflammatory diseases and systemic infections; neoplasms that may mimic ocular and neurological inflammation; and some inflammatory process can involve both the eye and the central nervous system, with no clear etiology found, then labeled “idiopathic”. We will list the main diseases that one should keep in mind for patients with ocular and neurological inflammation, and their principal characteristics.
