Abstract
In this article, two bending collapse modes of a thin-walled channel section beam are studied and the bending resistances are derived. The derived bending resistances are then applied for developing simplified finite element model for the channel section beam. The developed simplified model can correctly predict multi-axis bending behavior of the channel section beam. Same crashworthiness analyses are performed on both detailed and simplified channel section beam models to validate the developed simplified model. Analysis results yielded from both models are recorded and compared, and good agreement is achieved between these models. The developed simplified model is more efficient in computer simulation and structure evaluation.
