ResumenLa descripción de los trayectos de los meridianos Jīng Jīn se basa en observaciones empíricas realizadas hace más de 2000 años y, aunque se constata mediante registros históricos su posible fundamento anatómico a partir de la disección de cadáver, en la actualidad estos trayectos energéticos carecen de una base científica sólida desde el punto de vista biomédico. No obstante, la comparación del trayecto y función de los Jīng Jīn con los nuevos conocimientos acerca de la anatomía y fisiología del sistema fascial aportados desde la medicina occidental, proporciona puntos de confluencia y acercamiento entre ambas vertientes de conocimiento. Fisiológicamente, tanto los Jīng Jīn como el sistema fascial participan en funciones comunes estructurales, biomecánicas, integradoras y defensivas. Anatómicamente, así como los Jīng Jīn forman una red tridimensional a lo largo de todo el cuerpo, conectando piel, músculos, tendones y huesos, también el tejido fascial encaja en esta descripción.

The description of the pathways of the Jīng Jīn meridians is based on empirical observations carried out more than 2000 years ago, and though historical records have shown their possible anatomical basis, nowadays these energetic pathways lack a solid scientific base from the biomedical standpoint. Nonetheless, the comparison between the pathways and function of the Jīng Jīn with the new insights regarding contributions to anatomy and physiology of the fascial system brought from western medicine allows for meeting points and closer relations between the two areas of knowledge. Physiologically, both the Jīng Jīn and the fascial system participate in common structural, biomechanical, integrative and defensive functions. Anatomically, just like the Jīng Jīn form a three-dimensional network along the body connecting skin, muscles, tendons and bones, fascial tissue also fits this description.
