Abstract
It is in geriatrics that medication causes the most iatrogenic problems in terms of frequency and severity, up to a limit point where the toxic effects exceed the therapeutic benefit. It is also in geriatrics that homeopathy demonstrates its important role. It has no toxic effects because the medication is adjusted to the reactivity of the patient and it is administered in doses adapted to the patient's physiology. It channels in a curative manner, the reactivity of each patient, instead of it being dissipated in side effects. It favours autonomy through to the end of life and avoids the chronicity which palliative medication maintains and addiction risk factors. The current overspending in the public sector, 85% of which is related to the elderly and health care, must prompt public authorities to promote homeopathy, which is effective, economical and safe, in all geriatric care programmes.
