Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health problem with diabetic nephropathy (DN) as a predominant cause. The mineral bone disorder (MBD), which is a systemic disorder with both skeletal and extra-skeletal consequences, has effect on morbidity and mortality in patients with CKD. The disordered mineral metabolism is more common and more severe in patients with DN. The difference of bone disease and higher prevalence of other systemic manifestations has a consequent bearing upon the treatment plan for DN patients. All efforts have been made, in this particular discussion, to highlight the unique features of MBDs in DN patients than in the other CKD patient population.
