Abstract

This study reports 5 patients with multiple primary oral cancers. The tumours were synchronous in 3 patients and metachronous in 2. Histopathologically, 11 squamous cell carcinomas were recognised in these 5 patients, and 5 of these were early cancers with superficial invasion. Precancerous lesions or conditions were possibly associated with multiple primary oral cancers in 4 patients (1 male and 3 females). Although management with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and/or surgery was employed, 2 of the 5 patients died of oral cancer. This study emphasises that careful examination of the entire oral cavity and rigid follow-up are essential for a successful outcome.
