Objective: Common problems of the sinus lift procedure are perforation of sinus membrane and mobilisation of grafted materials. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of absorbable haemostat and fibrin adhesive in sinus lift procedures.Patients and Methods: Eight patients who had sinus membrane perforation during sinus lift procedures from May to December 2003 were enrolled. Absorbable haemostat containing oxidised regenerative cellulose was used to cover the perforated membrane. Fibrin adhesive was applied for the immobilisation of grafted materials and its synergistic effect on the management of sinus membrane perforation was analysed. Results: No patients experienced specific complications. Successful bone healing was shown by histopathological examination. Conclusion: The clinical outcomes suggest that absorbable haemostat with fibrin adhesive may be a suitable regimen for managing perforated sinus membrane in sinus lift procedures.
