Abstract
Part 2 of this series on computed tomography for oral and maxillofacial surgeons focuses on ‘cone-beam computed tomography’, which has recently been introduced into the global market. The advantages and limitations are discussed, with particular reference to spiral computed tomography, the subject of part 1. The main advantages are higher spatial resolution and lower radiation dose, while the smaller footprint and lower cost are likely to result in its installation outside hospitals and radiology centres.
