Abstract
The removal of amalgams from the oral cavity may represent a first successful therapeutic approach in patients with chronic oral mucosal lesions, especially if located in direct contact with the amalgams. In addition to possible toxico-allergic reactions to amalgams, it should be noted that the simultaneous presence of different types of metal restorations (often amalgam and crowns in gold alloy) may result in the formation of a high electric potential difference that can cause symptoms and lesions in the oral mucosa.
