Abstract
The demand for removable complete dentures seems to remain constant despite the declining prevalence of edentulism among the general population, probably due to population ageing. In addition, the constantly evolving image of increasingly older edentulous patients, often presenting with challenging anatomical features, suggests the need for more research into the factors affecting retention and/or stability of removable complete dentures. Finally, we would underline the important role played by the diagnostic process, impression taking, production of a correct denture base, tooth placement, as well as static and dynamic occlusion design, in obtaining retention and stability of removable complete dentures.
