Abstract
Considering the grave consequences of atherosclerosis, it seems reasonable to make every attempt to reduce the risk for these events by controlling all “modifiable” risk factors (smoking, obesity, stress etc.), including periodontal disease. This can be achieved with a simple oral hygiene interventions (by patients and dental hygienists) and minor periodontal surgery when needed.
