Abstract
Objectives. To identify the most appropriate approach to treatment for the elderly. Materials and methods. The authors evaluate various case scenarios in light of clinical evidence and data available in the international literature. Results. There is no standard approach. The treatment of choice will depend on different variables, such as the general health and life expectancy of the patient, as well as cost factors. Conclusions. In recent years, the use of implants in patients requiring prostheses has been increasing. However, it remains an expensive solution that involves surgical trauma to the tissues. Widespread use of this approach in elderly patients raises questions from both the clinical and ethical points of view.
