Abstract
Since there is no specific legislation governing the self-determination of minors or dental treatment in relation to these patients' overall right to health, dentists are forced to assume several substantial medico-legal responsibilities, such as identifying the age at which a patient's consent is recognized as legally valid, case-by-case assessment of psychological maturity, and the importance of expressed dissent to treatment.
