Abstract

A slow growing tumor, schwannoma of the jaws is a relatively rare intra-osseous occurrence. Intra-oral lesions are uncommon and intra-osseous schwannomas are even rarer. Until now there are only 44 proven cases of intra-osseous schwannoma reported in the literature. As diagnostic tools, ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging may be helpful for estimation of tumor margins as well as infiltration of surrounding structures. Nevertheless, they should not be considered as routine or indispensable procedures. This article presents a case report of intra-osseous benign tumor of mandible, schwannoma, which posed a diagnostic challenge because of its rarity.
