Abstract
Growth in dentistry has put dental profession at par with the medical profession to a greater extent. But this has also led to sensitization toward its professional conduct in the public. Many advances have been attained in legalizing the professional practice & the credit goes to the legislations designed to protect the public from un-qualified practitioners. In India concerns about how to improve health care quality have been frequently raised by the general public and a wide variety of stakeholders, including government, professional associations, private providers and agencies financing health care. In the scenario of commercialization of dental profession, we need to define standards of infrastructure, standards of specialist manpower & standards of quality of care. However only defining the standards would not be able to improve the standards of practice. It has to accompany with the ethics imbibed in the education system for surety of ethical practice along with strict legislations to curb any intentional negligent actions bringing bad name to the profession.
