Abstract
In spite of a proper implementation, there is the risk of complications in oral surgery. A very small percentage of nervous lesions is due to anaesthetic injections. This accident is therefore considered rare, even though possible. Several authors assessed frequency and etiology of lesions due to mandibular third molar surgery, but contrasting findings emerged. Different opinions exist about the possibility of a partial or total recovery. Being the exact distinction between complication and technical mistake impossible, from a medico-legal standpoint the estimate of a damage may turn out to be complicated, so that compensation may be required.
