Abstract
The number of cells capable of growing out from mandibular and calvarial grafts in vitro is lower in adult animals than in young animals. However, bone-derived cells from both young and adult rats respond to growth and differentiation factors present at defect sites, while there are topographic differences in the responsiveness to BMP-6.
