RésuméCet article analyse dans une perspective historique les principes qui ont façonné les éditions successives du DSM, la classification américaine des troubles mentaux. Les classifications des troubles mentaux ne sont pas des constructions statiques. Elles se transforment constamment en fonction de contraintes scientifiques et sociétales, évolutives et parfois contradictoires.

This paper offers a historical analysis of the principles that determined the successive editions of the DSM. Classifications of mental disorders are never definitive. They evolve constantly, under the influence of shifting scientific and societal determinants.
